Reblogged from Diane Ravitch's blog:
I had half a dozen interesting posts ready to go out today, but I decided it was inappropriate to return to business as usual after the tragedy at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.
I postponed them. So you won't be getting another post today.
This is a time to mourn, to reflect, to be still.
It's a time to think about the heroic staff at the school who reacted immediately to protect their students.
Ottawa Smiles Dental will be closed to enjoy the Holiday with our families starting on December 24th through January 2nd and re-opening on January 3rd. Our phones will be check, occasionally, so if you have a question, feel free to call. We wish you all a wonderful holiday season.
How often do you replace your toothbrush? According to the American Dental Association, you should get a new toothbrush every 3-4 months. Bacteria and bent bristles can decrease the effectiveness of your daily brushing.
Your old toothbrush can harbor bacteria for quite some time, so if you have had another person use your toothbrush or are back to your full health after sickness, it’s a good idea to sanitize your toothbrush to maintain your health.
If you’re concerned about the growth of bacteria on your toothbrush, be sure to keep your toothbrush in a ventilated area.
We at Ottawa Smiles Dental want to make sure your oral health is in its best shape and offer a free toothbrush with every visit.
We hope to see you soon,

Despite popular belief, we encourage you to enjoy Halloween. We do want you to dress up, go trick-or-treating and have a great time. We don’t even mind you eating the candy (in moderation), the key here is to FLOSS and BRUSH afterwards. As with regular everyday routines, food and drinks left on the teeth will cause decay so always remember to clean them properly twice a day.
So Have Fun, Be Safe and remember to Floss and Brush!
Smile.
It’s the one thing, you can do, anytime, anywhere – it won’t cost a thing, won’t hurt, won’t take much time and it’s easy. It’s so easy, even a new born can do it. It’s a universal symbol of good will, good faith, good moods and happiness.
It can make someones day, turn strangers into friends, find common ground and make a lasting first impression. A smile can brighten you day as well as those around you. It’s good for your mood, good for your soul and good for your health.
So, SMILE. What have you got to loose?
It’s coming! The ghosts and witches, the athletes and movie stars, dinosaurs and princesses- or at least the miniature versions of them as children dress up to gather goodies on Halloween. Plan ahead, be safe and remember to floss, brush and rinse after all the sugary snacks
